At Six combines modern art, dark glamour and a warm backdrop for social gatherings.
Stockholm has gotten their «black diamond» located in Brunkenberg Square, near the main shopping streets and with walking distance to the central station. My stay in this wonderful haven of modern luxury has put all my first world problems to shame. Because yes; as embarrassing at it may be, I live in a world that has grown accustomed to habits that might not be healthy for mankind (and I say that with kindness). When I travel I like to be swept away and taken into another dimension without help from any illegal substances.
The Six is quite impressive in so matter. My love for dark and masculine interior, got my mojo going right away. The kind girls in the reception provided an excellent service, and got my room upgraded to the top floor due to a minor problem with my bathroom (as any hotel should without having to mention it). The room in the 15th floor had excellent view over the city. The bespoke lighting, soft furnishing, tinted mirrors and a palette of greys, blacks, green marble, sand and dark wood welcomed me into the world of luxury, as I like it.
I might seem high maintenance, and maybe I am, but every time I come into my hotel room, I probably react in the same childish manner as everyone else. The first thing I do is checking the minibar, and this one was STACKED with lovely wine and a well curated beer selection…and then some. They have 24/7 room service, that made me relax, in case I would want meals in the middle of the night. (that way I don’t feel like a prisoner and need to get some horrible emergency food at 7 Eleven in case my midnight cravings spin out of control). Coffee machine; check! Music device with bluetooth; check! Nice pillows; Check! Nice bathroom amenities; check! Everything I need is in place, and I’m happy. If I should give my first world problems any attention it would be to the yellowish limestone bathrooms, that I find a bit to ordinary for a hotel of this standard.
A bonus in the rooms are the beautiful crystal glasses and the chic ice bucket and the mixer…you know; the devil is in the details and in rooms like this, everything matter…even the lovely gesture of having fresh flowers with the room service.
This design hotel has an astonishing collection of art, consisting of both selected and commissioned works, curated by Sune Nordgren. The first thing you will give attention to is the At Six signature piece; «Mar Whispering», a 2,5 meter marble head in the grand lobby staircase, by artist Jaume Plensa. But you can also experience art from other acclaimed artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Sol LeWitt, Richard Long, Tacita Dean and Julian Opie.
At Six feautures 343 rooms including a ’Masterpiece suite’ with a private rooftop terrace and panoramic windows in three directions. The social spaces stretches out on two floors with restaurant, bars, lounges and a 2000 sqm event area for 1000 guests. Dining Room serves contemporary international and seasonal cuisine inspired by all parts of the world, under the direction of Chef Andreas Askling. At Six Cocktail Bar mixes classics with a twist, with signature cocktails like Tipsy Tea and punch bowls. The Listening Lounge is a social living room with focus on sound and music quality with world-class collectors, local and international DJs, lectures, album sessions. Blanche & Hierta is At Six wine bar, coffee house and deli.
My 4 days at At Six was a wonderful treat (the yellowish Limestone bathroom even landed in the glamorous shadows of the rest ), and I hope to come back to this new design hotel in Stockholm very soon.
